The Rollei 35 S is a compact 35mm film camera produced by Rollei between 1976 and 1980, known for its remarkably small size, manual controls, and high build quality. Designed by Heinz Waaske, it features a collapsible 40mm f/2.8 Zeiss Sonnar lens, a quiet leaf shutter with speeds from 1/2s to 1/500s, and a match-needle CdS light meter. The camera offers full manual exposure in a robust metal body, with shutter and aperture dials positioned on either side of the lens and zone focusing aided by a depth-of-field scale. Film loading is bottom-access with a removable back, and the hot shoe is also located on the base. Although the light meter originally required mercury batteries, modern alternatives exist.
