The Olympus OM-2 is a professional 35mm single-lens reflex (SLR) film camera manufactured in Japan by Olympus between 1975 and 1988. Building on the earlier OM-1 body, the OM-2 introduced aperture-priority automatic exposure in addition to full manual operation, while maintaining compatibility with all OM-1 lenses and accessories. The OM-2 is notable for being the first camera to feature through-the-lens (TTL) off-the-film direct metering, known as Auto Dynamic Metering (ADM), which enabled precise exposure control, especially with flash photography. The camera used a horizontal-running cloth shutter with auto-exposure times from 60s to 1/1000s (up to 120s on the OM-2N) and a metered manual range of 1s to 1/1000s plus Bulb mode. Several models were produced, including the OM-2, OM-2 MD, OM-2N MD (available in chrome or black finishes), and the OM-2S/OM-2 Spot Program (black only), the latter featuring extensive internal revisions. The OM-2’s innovative metering technology, compact design, and system flexibility established its place as an influential camera among professionals and enthusiasts.
