The Topcon RE Super is a 35mm SLR camera manufactured by Tokyo Optical Company, launched in 1963 and produced until 1971. It is historically significant for being the first SLR with a through-the-lens (TTL) metering system, utilizing CdS photocells located behind a specially silvered reflex mirror. The camera features a focal plane shutter with speeds from 1 to 1/1000 second plus bulb, and an instant-return mirror. It uses the Exakta lens mount and offers interchangeable reflex finder heads and focusing screens. The RE Super requires a mercury battery for its whole-scene averaging meter, which has a sensitivity of 2 to 16 EV and supports film speeds from 25 to 1600 ASA.
