The Nikonos V, launched in 1984, further advanced the series' automation and versatility by adding a manual exposure mode alongside aperture-priority AE. This model featured TTL metered, electronically controlled shutter speeds from 1/30 to 1/1000 sec in auto mode, and manual shutter speeds up to 1/1000 sec, plus a mechanical 1/90 sec speed and Bulb setting. TTL flash metering was introduced for compatible Speedlight models, improving underwater flash photography with automatic exposure control. The camera featured a robust, ergonomically enhanced body available in orange or green, with a hinged camera back and improved sealing against the elements. The Nikonos V retained compatibility with all previous Nikonos lenses, supported ISO films from 25 to 1600, and maintained the 50m depth rating. Its combination of reliability, automation, and compatibility made it the definitive model of the Nikonos series, serving underwater and harsh environment photographers for nearly two decades.
