The Nikkormat EL is a 35mm SLR film camera manufactured by Nikon and introduced in 1972. It features an electronically controlled, vertical-travel, metal focal-plane shutter with speeds from 4 seconds to 1/1000 second plus Bulb. The camera supports aperture-priority automatic exposure as well as full manual control, utilizing a match-needle system in the viewfinder. It uses the Nikon F-mount, allowing compatibility with a wide range of Nikkor lenses. The Nikkormat EL is powered by a single 6V PX28 or equivalent battery, which is required for all shutter speeds except the mechanical backup speed of 1/90 second and Bulb. Notable features include a depth-of-field preview button, mirror lock-up, and a hot shoe for flash synchronization.
