The Nikon EM is a 35mm film SLR camera introduced by Nikon in 1979. It features aperture-priority automatic exposure with a mechanical backup shutter speed of 1/90 second. The camera uses Nikon's F-mount, allowing compatibility with a wide range of Nikkor lenses. The EM has a vertical-travel, electronically controlled metal focal-plane shutter with speeds from 1 to 1/1000 second plus Bulb. It includes a through-the-lens (TTL) center-weighted metering system and a hot shoe for flash. Notably compact and lightweight, the Nikon EM was designed as an entry-level SLR for amateur photographers.
