The Canon EOS 500 is an entry-level 35mm autofocus SLR camera introduced by Canon in 1993. It was also known as the EOS Rebel XS in North America and the EOS Kiss in Japan. A similar model without a built-in flash was available as the EOS Rebel X. It features an electronic vertical travel focal plane shutter with speeds from 30 seconds to 1/2000th of a second and a built-in pop-up flash with a guide number of 12. The metering system uses a silicon photo diode with evaluative, central partial, and center-weighted average modes, and supports film speeds from 6 to 6400 ISO. Exposure modes include aperture priority, shutter priority, depth of field AE, manual exposure, and a program mode with scene selections. Film loading is automatic, prewinding the film onto the take-up spool, and it advances up to 3 frames per second. It is powered by two 3V CR123A lithium batteries.
