CANON AV-1

The Canon AV-1 is a 35mm single-lens reflex (SLR) camera introduced in 1979 by Canon Inc., using the FD lens mount system. Unlike the earlier Canon AE-1, the AV-1 features aperture-priority autoexposure, meaning the user sets the aperture and the camera automatically selects the appropriate shutter speed; the camera does not support fully manual exposure control. The AV-1 was developed in response to market demand, particularly from international distributors, for an aperture-priority SLR similar to models offered by competitors. The introduction of the AV-1 coincided with the release of Canon's New FD lenses, which allowed for quicker and easier lens changes through a simplified bayonet mounting system. The AV-1 is fully compatible with all accessories designed for the AE-1. AV in the model name stands for aperture value, reflecting the camera's emphasis on aperture-priority automation.
